These workshops are for any couple in a committed relationship who wants to invest in their relationship and make it even stronger. You don't need to be experiencing problems to benefit from the workshop—many couples join because they want to improve communication, learn healthy ways to manage conflict, and build skills that help their relationship thrive.
This workshop may be a good fit if you are:
- Committed dating relationships
- Living together, engaged, or preparing for marriage
- Newly married or have been together for years
- Looking to improve communication and manage conflict more effectively
- Wanting to strengthen and enrich your relationship
Our From Partners to Parents workshop is specifically designed for couples who are expecting or newly parenting a child under three, including families formed through adoption or fostering.
Get in touch by contacting connectedcouples@familyservice.pe.ca or register for an upcoming workshop at this link: https://fspei.ca/upcoming-workshop-schedule/.
While our workshops are beneficial for many couples, they are not the right fit for every situation.
These workshops are not appropriate for couples where there is:
- Any form of abuse is present, including emotional, mental, financial, physical, or sexual abuse.
- There is domestic violence in the relationship.
- One or both partners are experiencing active and untreated substance use or behavioural addictions.
- One or both partners are dealing with serious and untreated mental health concerns.
- There are patterns of fear, control, or coercion in the relationship.
- Only one partner plans to attend, as the workshops are designed for couples to participate together.
If you are experiencing any of these challenges, we encourage you to contact us. We can provide information about our therapeutic counselling services and other services in the community.
If you are unsure if this workshop is for you, we encourage you to contact the Program Coordinator to discuss. Couples can reach out directly for a confidential discussion at connectedcouples@familyservice.pe.ca.
Some extended health benefit plans may reimburse all or a portion of the fees of therapeutic and psychoeducational workshops when facilitated by a registered therapist. Since coverage varies by insurer and individual plan, we recommend checking with your insurance provider.
If you will require receipts to submit an insurance claim, please let us know. We can provide a receipt for the days attended with the name of the Counselling Therapist facilitating the workshop and their registration number.
Each workshop includes 12 hours of guided learning, skills-based exercises, all workshop materials, and a personalized and supportive environment for you and your partner. We also provide a Couples workbook and refreshments throughout the day, if participating in-person.
No, this workshop is psycho-educational in nature, not group therapy. Alongside guided learnings, you will work privately on exercises together throughout the day in a supportive environment, and sharing with the larger group is never required.
No, the workshops are not counseling. Our workshops are psychoeducational, offering skills-based learning in a supportive environment. They are designed with guided learnings and time for you and your partner to connect, work on exercises privately together, and learn skills that you can immediately apply to your relationship. Our therapists recommend the workshops to many of their clients.
No, there is no requirement for couples to be in or have previously taken couples counselling. Family Service PEI offers sliding scale counselling should a couple or individual be interested in those services.
No, you can simply register for the program using the registration link on our Upcoming Workshops page. If you need support, please contact ConnectedCouples@familyservice.pe.ca.
