Connected Couples Workshop

Our Connected Couples Workshop, based on The Gottman Institute’s Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, draws on decades of Gottman Institute research. This evidence-based program helps couples deepen friendship, strengthen trust, improve communication, and navigate conflict in healthier ways. The program draws from over four decades of research on what helps relationships last and thrive.

Couples that take this program experience:

  • Increased relationship satisfaction
  • Improved friendship, fondness and admiration
  • Enhanced romance and intimacy
  • Better manage conflict constructively
  • Improved skills to address perpetual and solvable problems
  • Stronger and more effective communication

Couples should expect to walk away with a practical toolkit for deepening intimacy and friendship, navigating conflict and enhancing their connection. Because your story is your own and this isn’t group therapy, there is no group sharing. Instead, we provide a comfortable, confidential space for couples to learn new skills and work on exercises together privately.

Couples that would benefit from this workshop:

This workshop is designed to support committed couples at any relationship stage, from early relationship to decades of partnership.

Couples that this workshop would not be well suited for:

This workshop is not appropriate for couples experiencing any form of abuse or domestic violence, active and untreated addiction (substance or behavioural), or severe and untreated mental health concerns. It is not suitable for couples experiencing fear, control, or safety concerns in their relationship.

Note: If these concerns apply to you, or if you are unsure if this program is the right fit, please contact us so we can help find the support that best meets your needs at this time.

Program Delivery

Workshops are facilitated by trained Family Service PEI staff and counsellors and are designed to be supportive, practical, and trauma-informed. These psycho-educational programs complement therapeutic counselling, and serve as a proactive resource for couples seeking to strengthen their relationships.

These programs are offered in either a 12 hour or 6 hour format. Sessions are delivered consecutively in a one or two day format, or broken into smaller sessions over a longer period of time. We offer workshops in-person in communities across the island, as well as virtually.
